Boyd (five) and Sanders (six) combined for 11 home runs on Friday and Saturday to lead Hillsboro to the softball championship of the 11th annual Leadoff Classic in Troy. The Hawks (4-0) beat Troy 7-3 in the tournament final on Saturday. The Trojans are the defending Class 4 state champions. In the final against Troy, Sanders hit two solo home runs and Boyd’s three-run blast in the fifth gave the Hawks a 5-1 lead. Sanders was 5-for-5 with three homers and six RBIs in Hillsboro’s 19-2 win against Fort Zumwalt North in Friday’s opener. The Hawks hit 14 home runs during the tournament.
