Carlie Sanders • Hillsboro softball

A senior shortstop, Sanders had a record-setting week. Her 18th home run of the season, which came in the Hawks’ 11-1 win Sept. 20 over Seckman, surpasses the former single-season state record of 17, which was set by Fox’s Ashley Ellis and Lutheran South’s Emily Frankenreiter in 2015 and tied by Scott City’s Kaleigh Dirden in 2016. It was another big moment in what has been an outstanding season for Sanders, who is among the area leaders in batting average (.595), RBI (42), runs scored (47), slugging percentage (1.345) and on-base percentage (.626). A first-team all-conference selection the past two seasons, Sanders has committed to Boston College.
