(Hillsboro) Top seed Hillsboro survived a scare from fourth seed Farmington, 48-42, in the Class 4 District 1 semis on AM 800 KREI and AM 1400 KJFF. After the two teams traded touchdowns to open the game, Farmington got a boost from special teams…


A 56-yard Tycen Gray touchdown run put the Knights up by two scores 28-12, but Hillsboro scored back to back touchdowns to close the first half with momentum….


Hillsboro took its first lead on the first possession of the second half, going 14 plays and 71 yards. Farmington responded, going 68 yards on seven plays, converting three fourth downs on the way. Joe Garner gave Hillsboro the lead again with his fourth touchdown run of the game.

Farmington’s Tycen Gray rushed for 155 yards, and gave Farmington their final lead with this catch…

But just like in the first half, Tyler Isaacson engineered a touchdown drive with under two minutes to play for the final margin….

Hillsboro rushed for 480 yards, 181 from Luke Skaggs, 151 for Michael Keller. Lee Freeman praised the play of his offensive line….

Farmington closes the year at 6-5. Coach Erik Kruppe was proud of his guys…

Hillsboro improves to 8-3 and will host third seed Cape Central Friday in the district championship game on AM 1400 KJFF.
