By Russell Korando

The last time Hillsboro was in the quarterfinals was in 2012. The Hawks lost 37-14 to St. Mary’s.

The last Hillsboro meeting against Ladue was Sept. 9, 2005. The Hawks, 1-9 that year, had fewer than 200 yards of total offense and were shut out 42-0 by the Rams in Hillsboro. Hillsboro was 0-4 against Ladue from 2002-2005.

Ladue, 22-4 the last two seasons, lost 14-10 to Kearney in last year’s Class 4 semifinals. In 2014, the Rams competed in Class 5 and lost to eventual state champion Battle in the semifinals.

In the three district games this season, Hillsboro senior running back Joe Garner scored six touchdowns. Senior defensive end-tight end Joe Marschuetz had a touchdown reception against De Soto, and three sacks and a fumble recovery against Cape Girardeau Central in the district final. Senior quarterback Tyler Isaacson has scored the game-winning TD in the fourth quarter of Hillsboro’s last two games.
