The Hillsboro boys varsity basketball team defeated Duchesne, 63-42, Saturday to take third place at the Fountain City Classic at DeSoto High School. Friday, the Hawks took their first loss of the season, losing to eventual tournament runner-up, Rockwood Summit, 59-53.
Saturday’s victory featured 19-point performances by Logan Smith and Evan Worley. Combined, the two made 16-of-20 shots on the night. The Hawks got nine points from Mark Moore, six from Ethan Worley, and five from Zach Whaley. Garrett Pinkley and Eric Schneider rounded out the scoring with three and two points respectively.
Evan Worley led the team with nine rebounds, while Ethan Worley had five assists.
On Friday against Summit, the Hawks had 13 turnovers and shot only 37 percent from the field in the four point loss. “We didn’t play our best that night,” Moore said. “We got over our loss quickly and came out swinging on Saturday.”
Ethan Worley knocked down 18 points to lead the Hawks, while Whaley added 13. Schneider hit for six points, while Moore, Pinkley, and Smith each had five points. Evan Worley had three points and six blocked shots.
